In the Air: Lou Ros & Sanghyuk Kim
Gwen Park is pleased to present In the Air, the first exhibition at its new space on Koninginneweg. Bringing together works by Lou Ros and Sanghyuk Kim, the exhibition marks a new chapter for the gallery.
In the Air takes its title from the atmosphere shared by the works: birds moving across open skies, butterflies held in a moment of stillness, and the changing light of the landscape. The phrase also suggests anticipation—something new taking shape, present but not yet fully defined.
Lou Ros presents nine paintings centred on landscapes, sunsets and birds. Working with layered applications of acrylic and pastel on canvases ranging from small to large scale, Ros creates scenes that appear familiar yet indistinct, as though recalled from memory. With few signs of human presence or built structures, his landscapes move between recognisable scenery and abstraction. The setting sun becomes a point of transition: not simply the end of a day, but the beginning of another.
In Sanghyuk Kim’s work, the butterfly introduces a more intimate expression of movement and transformation. Its delicate form carries a sense of impermanence, while connecting the earthly and the airborne. Placed alongside Ros’s expansive landscapes and birds, Kim’s butterflies draw attention to moments that are fleeting, suspended and easily overlooked.
Together, the works consider air as both a physical space and an atmosphere: something that surrounds, connects and carries the possibility of change. For the gallery’s inaugural exhibition on Koninginneweg, In the Air reflects on transition while looking towards what comes next.
